Frustrated by the fact that I had been discovered by the guy I had been following during my investigation into fraudlent buisiness practices, I came up with a new plan. The guy is out right now doing his evil deeds. I’ll break inot his shop and search for clues there!
I easily picked the locks and gained entry to the building. In an upstairs desk I found a book about accoutning, Volume 2. This looks like it might be a clue! So I steal it. While checking elsewhere I’m suddenly jumped by a guard demanding I surrender.
Massive Nitpick Number 1 – How do the guards always know if I’m stealing, instantly? It’s annoying as hell. I’m alone, upstairs in a building. I picked up a book. I’ve gotten this before but I would just reload my game. It’s unrealistic and lame in terms of game play.
I surrender to the guard and pay my fine. He takes me to the jail and I give up my stolen goods (The book and some parchment). I need to reover my book though! I noticed hey keep evidence in a chest int he main room of the prison. I speak to the warden there and ask to see a prisoner. While he’s unlocking the cells, I quickly pick the lock ont he chest and steal back my goods. For show I wander down the prison hall to see what’s there. I yack witht he only prisoner then return to the city.
Sadly, after hecking the book, I find it is in fact, a book about accounting. Not a Ledger of illicit transactions. I dump the book and parchmen toff the bridge outside the prison so I don’t get caught and head back to the guy’s shop. He’s still friendly which tells me he has no idea I’ve been stealing his stuff. Unfortunately I’m tired of this quest so I go to see the sites in the city.
I’ve decided I want a house.
Specifically, I’m going to find some nobody, kill him, and take his house. I come across some guy who calls himself “The Northerner”. He seems like a pretty lame guy so I whip out my bow and drop an arrow in his chest at point blank. The Northerner apparently knows how to teleport because he cries for help then dissapears.
Knowing the town guards will soon be on thier way I run through his house for anything of value only to discover, he’s still there. It seems he didn’t teleport away, he simply became invisible. I run him through with my sword and at this point 3 or 4 armed guards show up. They kill me.
So I reload my game and let the Northerner live.
I’ve heard reports that the assassins guild recruits people in the night if they have commited murder. I find a lone beggar in an ally and shoot him several times in his sleep. I get a message that “somone has observed your killing”.
Success!
Maybe….
The gurds apparently also witnessed my killing with thier “ability to see through walls and everywhere at once”. I duke it out with one guard while a couple of others shower us with arrows. I manage to down one guard with a few well placed fireballs. I steal his armor to protect fromt he arrows and make a break for the exit to the city. I notice the closest exit is some sort of stable. Hopefully I can grab a horse and make a speedy getaway.
I never found the stable. I must have passed it. I did escape the city and the guards seemed to give up chase. I decided my first need was to ditcht hte obvious armor. That heavy armor isn’t really my style anyway, but it served it’s purpose.
Unfortunately I had to drop some things to use the armor in the first place due to being overburdened. Those things had been my old clothes.
I have some blacksmith clothes I had bought but those provide no protection. Outside the city though are an inn and a house. Hopefully I can pilfer some clothing at one of those locations.
It will be a while before I return to Imperial City. I suppose it’s time to try to deliver that amulet the Emperor gave me before he died.
