Transformers Classics is a line of questionable success though fans loved it. Hasbro announced months ago that they were going to continue the Classics line along side the animated line after the Movie line is finished. Confused yet?
Anyway, Classics 2.0, as it’s being called is actually Transformers: Universe, which is technically Universe 2.0. Are you lost YET?! I’m really trying here.
Anyway, it’s essentially going to end up being a blend of the old Classics line and the old Universe line. Meaning we’ll get a few updated new molds based on old designs and we’ll get some repainted old molds based on old color schemes. Neither of which I overly object to. I am a bit disturbed about the recently revealed images. I’m sure all fo the toys will be totally awesome once released but the example to the right just doesn’t quite match up tot he original design.
The character pictured is Onslaught. I’ll start by saying he looks pretty awesome. I’m sure he’ll be a really great toy. he just doesn’t look much like a great Onslaught. There’s also the hope and potential behind this character being part of a combiner as he originally was. Still this makes his design even more disturbing. The original Bruiticus consisted of a tank, a space shuttle, a jeep, a helicopter and a “huge cannon truck”. Ok, they were all grossly out of scale so updated designs and modes would b a good idea for Classics 2.0 but making Onslaught’s “huge cannon truck” into a police SWAT truck just doesn’t mesh for me. We’ll have to see what unfolds.
As for the rest of the line. There’s is also a Sunstreaker picture floating around the internet. Technically Hasbro doesn’t want fans to post the picture online since it’s for TFCC members only. As I’m not a member of this club I’m a bit torn on if I really should post it or not. Either way I’ll comment on the design. It seems to have a pretty Alternators style going ti his design, especially int he legs. Both modes old vaguely suggest Sunstreaker though. The vehicle mode certainly resembles a Lamborghini, though a more modern Lamborghini. His robot mode however seems a bit too skinny to really be Sunstreaker. Of course said the same thing about Mirage yet he certainly works as a character. Truth be told Sunstreaker being skinny works for pretty much the same reason Mirage “works”. He’s a snobby pretty boy so he’s a skinny pretty boy robot.
For what it’s worth the other announced Universe characters are Powerglide, Prowl, and Octane (renamed as Tankor). I like the idea of Prowl and that certainly supports what I remember hearing about Prowl being the only figure in both Animated and Classics. Not to mention he can be repainted as Smokescreen and Silverstreak. Octane’s renaming seems kind of odd. I wonder why they didn’t try to go with Mega octane or something closer to his original. I suppose Tankor works too for a triple changer that turns into a tanker truck.
NOTE: At the request of Hasbro I have removed the Sunstreaker Image

Hmmm, I was hoping for some bigger name characters. Like Perceptor, another dinobot, or shockwaveblastington. If they want these toys to sell, then make some mods on the very popular ones. Stop remaing the same bland ones. Of course I would love an updated Sky Lynx (not too interested in paying for the rerelease of the same old one) Thats my story.

YEah, I’d have liked better characters. Also, while I like the idea of Prowl, I’ve got a decent “Classic Smokescreen and Silverstreak already with Cybertron Smokescreen and Movie Jazz.

I’m hoping that the Onslaught pictured will have the ability to combine because it’s about time we had a new Bruticus and not the shambles that tried to pass itself off as Energon Bruticus Maximus who i refused to buy…
Unfortunately we’ve got to wade our way through the unnecessary movie repaints before we can get our grubby little fingers on Classics 2.0 or Animated which from what i’ve read, are the lines people want ABOVE the countless movie repaints…
But what can you do *shrugs*

Silverstreak? I only remember Bluestreak.

Silverstreak is the modern name for Bluestreak. Somehow I’ve gotten stuck to use it.
